Welcome to Patty's Pacers 2021
Hello Patty's Pacers Family!
As many of you know, May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month and May 15, 2021 will mark ten years since we lost my mom, our beloved Patty, to bladder cancer. Not a day goes by that we don't miss her but if you knew her, you knew she was dedicated to helping people. Patty spent much of her own seven year battle against bladder cancer working with the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network to help raise awareness. What better way to honor her memory and beautiful life than to continue helping the more than 600,000 people living with bladder cancer in the U.S. today. This year, nearly 81,000 people will be newly diagnosed and 17,000 will not survive their bladder cancer journey.
Our Patty's Pacers Team in the Chicago BCAN Walk To End Bladder Cancer has meant the world to me since we started walking in 2014 and our team alone has raised more than $25,000. I couldn't be more proud of every dollar we've raised and every step we've taken together.
As you may already know, the national BCAN Walk took place virtually on May 1, 2021. Since they did not consult the NFL Draft schedule, I created my own 'virtual walk' dedicated specifically to Patty on Saturday, May 15th. Patty's Pacers' 2020 virtual team had walkers from Seattle to Boston and the Florida Keys, which is simply amazing! What states can we add this year?!
No matter where you walk, the goal is always to raise awareness, to honor the beautiful person we lost too soon, and to encourage those battling bladder cancer today. I will be walking a three-mile course at 10am on Saturday with my family in Illinois, but feel free to walk anytime and any distance you wish throughout the day!
If you are able to participate, I only ask 3 things of you:
- Get educated. Take five minutes and read the symptoms, signs and risk factors on the BCAN website: https://bcan.org/bladder-cancer-signs-symptoms-risk-factors/
- Call or even better, walk with someone you are grateful to have in your life. Tell them you love them.
- Wear orange, the official BCAN color, tag me @lscreeden and @bladdercanceradvocacynetwork on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook to help raise awareness!
If you wish to donate to BCAN, you can click the 'Donate Now' button at the top right corner of the page. Your donation will help promote bladder cancer research, education and support programs – and, most importantly, save lives.
Thank you all for your continued support of Patty's Pacers. It means the world to me.
XOXO
Lauren
