We are participating in the Walk to End Bladder Cancer in memory of our father who passed away in August 2017 fighting till his very last breath. What we didn't realize at the time of his diagnosis is that the odds were against him. Bladder cancer has the highest rate of reoccurrence (50-80%) among known cancers. Its also among the top 10 cancers where the prognosis is only getting worse. We wish our Dad had better options. One of the most important reasons for the relative lack of improvement in the treatment of bladder cancer is the low funding for research. In the USA, research on breast cancer is supported by over 600 million dollars and approximately 300 million is spent on lung, bowel, prostate, and leukemia per year. However, research spend on bladder cancer research was a mere 22 million.
We are walking for more than six hundred thousand people living with bladder cancer in the US alone; nearly 81,000 who will be diagnosed this year; and to honor the 17,000 who will die from this disease.
We don't want another family to have to go through what we did. We want to raise awareness and funds for all those who have and will be diagnosed with this horrific disease. We believe we can do better. And we know our Dad wouldn't want us to give up this fight.
DONATE NOW! In honor of all those affected by bladder cancer – please help us reach our goal. Any amount helps!
JOIN OUR TEAM and invite others you know to do the same!
By making a donation to our team, you will be helping BCAN to promote bladder cancer research education and support programs – but, most importantly, to save lives.
