ATX Bag Lady
John and I are walking not only in gratitude for my cancer-clear status but also to honor the more than 600,000 people living with bladder cancer in the US, the nearly 81,000 who will be diagnosed this year, and the 17,000 who will die from this disease. The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN), the organization patients count on to learn more about this devastating disease, has earned Charity Navigator's 4-Star rating for its fifth consecutive year. In Houston last year, John and I gained great up-to-date information at the BCAN Summit.
My surgeon Dr. Robert Svatek, one of BCAN's research collaborators, is Associate Professor and Chief of the Division of Urologic Oncology at the University of Texas Health, San Antonio. He's building a center of excellence for invasive bladder cancer (like mine) for patients from South and Southwest Texas region.
Founding organizer for BCAN's Corpus Walk is Jacqueline Garcia, an energetic health care professional, wife, and mother whose father died with bladder cancer about the same time her mother started breast cancer treatment. Thanks for your love and support.
