Why is our event classified as a DIY and not a BCAN event?

This is YOUR activity, which means YOU get to do it YOUR way, with YOUR ideas and adding YOUR own spin.

What are some DIY fundraising ideas? 
The options are endless. Here are just a few:

Is there a fee to register and start a DIY Fundraiser?

No. there is no registration fee required.

Will BCAN pay for expenses of a DIY event?

No.  BCAN is not financially liable for the staging of a DIY event.  BCAN will not provide insurance for a DIY event.

What is the easiest way to submit check donations to BCAN?

Mail checks directly to BCAN.  Checks should be made payable to the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, and sent to 4520 East West Hwy, 610, Bethesda, MD 20814.

Will BCAN provide an auction or raffle license for my event?

No.  Please review the auction and raffle laws in your state.

Can funds from the DIY event be used to pay event expenses?

Yes.  Please ensure the funds are stored in a safe location.  Funds used for expenses are not considered tax-deductible.

Can funds already turned in BCAN be used to pay DIY expenses?

No.  Once funds have been donated to BCAN, they cannot be utilized to pay expenses.

When do funds raised from DIY events need to be given to BCAN?

Please send funds to BCAN within 30 days of the event either via mail or through the DIY website .

Are donations made to a DIY event tax deductible?

The Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) is recognized by the IRS as a 501c3non-profit organization.Donations made payable to BCAN are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

How does BCAN spend donations?

BCAN invests donor contributions wisely.  Donations support BCAN’s mission through programs which include the Bladder Cancer Think Tank, Patient Insight Webinars, printed educational materials, and bladder cancer research. For more information about BCAN programs and services, go to www.bcan.org.
