Fundraising Tips

Self-Donor - Start by making a donation yourself and asking others to match it.

Who do you know? – The key to building a successful fundraising campaign depends on asking people you know for support.  Think about everyone whose lives you touch and ask him or her to join your team or make a donation.  Use the Who Do You Know? Worksheet to identify people that you know and organize them into categories.

Start a Facebook Fundraiser - Use your Participant Center to link your personal fundraising to a Facebook Fundraiser.

Send emails – Use your participant center to send emails to friends and family to ask for their support and to join you in supporting the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.

Honor someone – Encourage a bladder cancer survivor to participate on your team or encourage friends and loved ones to participate in memory of someone.

Get personal – Share your story of how you are helping by telling your story about bladder cancer.

Ask every day - Ask one person each day to make a contribution. If you get five $20 gifts, you'll have raised $100 in less than a week! Bladder cancer is a disease that impacts many, and most people who you ask will be happy to donate.

Talk it up - Ask for a few minutes on the agenda of any meetings (such as support group or church) you'll be attending. Explain why you are participating in the event and ask for everyone's support. If you're dedicating your efforts to someone don’t forget to tell their story.

Fundraise as a team – Encouraging others in a friendly fundraising effort is a great way to get more people involved.  And sometimes, you are not just asking for money. For example, some teams offer free baby-sitting or host movie nights, garage sales, spaghetti dinners, or car washes.

Donation Forms – Keep a donation form on you at all times so you can be ready to accept donations from anyone at any time.

Matching Gifts – Many organizations offer matching gift programs to encourage coworkers to contribute to charitable organizations. Some provide matching funds to support employee volunteer hours. Often, many matching donation programs will match dollar for dollar, doubling the impact that you can make.
